In comparison to other Chinese cities, Xiamen has relatively fresh air and clean environment, as there is far fewer manufacturing plants in the area. The island-city has an abundance of tourist attractions, such as islands, beaches, mountains, temples and parks.
In 2013, 2012, and 2010, Xiamen won the TripAdvisor’s Traveler’s Choice© Destinations Award.
Gulangyu was colonized by foreign countries over 100 years ago. Much of the original architecture has been left virtually untouched. It is, by far, the most popular destination in Xiamen. There are many other attractions on the island such as Sunlit Rock, Shuzhuang Garden, and Gangzihou Bathing Beach.
Nanputuo temple has about 1000 years’ history, which was first erected during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The temple’s Heavenly King Hall, the Shrine of Buddhist Scriptures, the Great Compassion Hall and the Main Shrine Hall are all graced with painted brackets. These sections of the building are constructed with a delicate and impressive approach.
